MADHUBANI ART
Also known as Mithila Art, Madhubani painting dates back over 2,500 years, originating in the Mithila region of Bihar, India. It began when King Janak commissioned artists to depict the wedding of Sita and Lord Ram, leading to the kingdom being adorned in this intricate folk art. Common motifs include fish, peacocks, turtles, sun, moon, lotus, and bamboo trees, symbolizing love, devotion, bravery, fertility, and prosperity through striking geometric patterns.
KALAMKARI ART
Kalamkari art originated over 100 years ago in the regions of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Traditionally used as decorative temple backdrops, this intricate art form features hand-drawn motifs like the Tree of Life, birds, animals, and revered Indian deities. Rich in storytelling and spiritual symbolism, Kalamkari brings heritage and harmony into every space.
PICHWAI ART
Also known as Miniature Painting, Pichwai art originated over 400 years ago in Nathdwara, Rajasthan. Traditionally hung behind the idol of Shreenathji (a local form of Krishna), these paintings served as temple backdrops. Pichwai depicts scenes from Lord Krishna’s life — including his childhood, Radha, gopis, cows, birds, and divine settings — combining devotion and detailed craftsmanship.
WARLI ART
Created by tribal communities of the Sahyadri hills in Maharashtra, Warli art dates back to around 3000 B.C. Rooted in Mother Nature and tribal life, it features scenes of hunting, farming, dancing, and wildlife. People and animals are uniquely drawn using two inverted triangles joined at the tip, symbolizing the cosmic balance of the universe in this ancient tribal tradition.
